I know what a pain it can be for college students and community members to deal with a manager or booking agent. And while I have sometimes pined for the simplicity of having professional representation, the benefits of having someone else helping me set up my schedule is outweighed by the personal interaction with students I’ve been blessed to have for years.
If you want me to perform at your school, and I want to perform at your school, then I don’t see any reason we’d need to bring a third person into that conversation. I have faith that as intelligent-type cats, we will be able to work something out.
By representing myself, I can afford to keep my fee pretty low because I don’t need to pay a percentage of my revenue to nobody else.
And don’t forget, I might be available to do a workshop on your campus too, or to host the show I’m featured at, or whatever it is. Since I handle my booking grassroots style, I’m open to anything from the jump.
So just shoot me an e-mail at info (AT) gilesli.com, and we’ll take it from there.
Peace,
Giles
By the way, for packaged shows with other performers - such as “Beats Rhymes & Rice” or “Danger & Beauty” - we tend to choose to have one common manager or else it would be chaos. For real.
